Mitsubishi Motors North America and the State of Hawaii have teamed up to improve the infrastructure and advance the deployment of electric vehicles - especially the Mitsubishi i - in the tropical island. Estrella Seese, acting energy program administrator at Hawaii's Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, says that the project is part of an overall mission by the state to have 70 percent of its energy come from "clean energy" by 2030.

Under the terms of the agreement, Mitsubishi and the State of Hawaii will cooperate on a host of plug-in vehicle-related initiatives throughout the state. Details can be found in Mitsubishi's presser after the jump.

With a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $27,990 (not including the destination charge) for the base ES model before a federal tax credit of $7,500 and Hawaii's just-announced clean energy rebate of up to $4,500, the Mitsubishi i will effectively cost $15,990 in the islands. Cutter Mitsubishi in Aiea, Hawaii will have a Mitsubishi i available for test drives later this fall.
